CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced M2, beginning the next generation of Apple silicon designed specifically for the Mac. Built using second-generation 5-nanometer technology, M2 takes the industry-leading performance per watt of M1 even further with an 18 percent faster CPU, a 35 percent more powerful GPU, and a 40 percent faster Neural Engine.1 It also delivers 50 percent more memory bandwidth compared to M1, and up to 24GB of fast unified memory. M2 brings all of this — plus new custom technologies and greater efficiency — to the completely redesigned MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro.

I'm really curious to see how the M2 chip handles once it's released in the new Macs. If it's anything like the M1 chip then I think we'll see some great performance from Apple's laptop line and what people are able to do with them. I also think it creates a great competition between chip manufacturers.

Apple did a really good job with the M1 chip and I read some really positive reviews about it so I think the M2 will be a hit in the new Macs that they have lined up and ready to release. You only really know how good they are once they're in the wild anyway. Lab conditions are often too 'perfect'.

It will be interesting to see what the reviews say when it is released. I just want to know what they're changed and how much it differs from the M1 chip which when that came out people went crazy for (and actually liked a lot as well). I'm not sure when the first M2 Mac even releases though.
